Araya faces numerous charges of sexual assault involving a job applicant and three former employees, as reported by the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office.

Araya, who owns El Catador Lounge and Restaurant, Dubai Lounge, Mill Hill Saloon, and Trenton Social, bought Mill Hill Saloon and Trenton Social in 2023. These venues have long been popular in the Capital City for meetings and events.

During the raid, law enforcement officials arrested Araya at Mill Hill Saloon on South Broad Street without incident. Search warrants were also executed at his other businesses, El Catador and Dubai, both located on the 900 block of New York Ave., and at Araya’s residence in Ewing.

Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo Onofri announced on Thursday that the investigation, conducted jointly with Trenton Police, Lawrence Township Police, and county authorities, led to Araya being charged with five counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, one count of first-degree sexual assault, two counts of second-degree sexual assault, one count of first-degree kidnapping, two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact, and one count of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child. The investigation began after a woman applying for a job at Dubai Lounge reported an assault by Araya last month.

According to the victim, during her job interview at Dubai Lounge, Araya offered to show her his other bars in the city. After leaving Dubai with him and visiting another bar, Araya made her several drinks, insisting she drink them to understand what she would be serving customers. The victim reported feeling ill and wanting to go home, after which she blacked out. She later woke up naked in a strange room, being sexually assaulted by Araya. The investigation determined the room was a motel in Lawrence Township, where Araya had taken her while she was incapacitated.

Through further investigation, authorities identified three additional victims, all of whom provided crucial information.

“This investigation was truly a cooperative effort and a perfect example of how successful law enforcement can be when we work together,” Onofri stated. “From the lead detectives who operated with unwavering commitment on this case from the beginning to the four brave women who came forward to share their stories and work with investigators to ensure this predator was taken off the streets. No one can do it alone. We will continue to work with our partners and our communities to make Mercer County safe.”

“First and foremost, I want to acknowledge the victims of these heinous acts. They are survivors. It took a great deal of courage, trust in our detectives, and patience with the process to get to this point,” said Trenton Police Director Steve Wilson. “I appreciate the tremendous work of all the personnel involved, specifically Trenton Police SVU Detective Lizmary Rivera and Trenton Police ABC Detective Cathiria Colon, for their months of tireless hard work and dedication to this investigation.”

Lawrence Police Chief Christopher Longo added, “The investigation and subsequent arrest of Gerald Araya is the result of a strong partnership and collaboration between the Lawrence Township Police Department, the Trenton Police Department, and the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office. The arrest in this case underscores our collective dedication to bringing justice to victims of sexual assault.”

Onofri highlighted the collaboration among local, county, and federal agencies in the investigation and execution of the search warrants. Agencies involved included the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office, Mercer County Prosecutor’s Special Investigations Unit, Mercer County Tactical Response Team, Ewing Police Department, Lawrence Township Police Department, Trenton Police Department, and Homeland Security Investigations.

The Prosecutor thanked all involved agencies and officers, particularly Detective Sergio Sanchez, Sergeant Ahmad Mansur, Assistant Prosecutor Brett Berman, Assistant Prosecutor Alycia Beyrouty, and lead detectives Suzanne Girard of Lawrence Township Police Department, and Cathiria Colon and Lizmary Rivera of Trenton Police Department.

In addition to his bar businesses, Araya owns Jersey Cargo Express LLC, a trucking company listed as active with the U.S. Department of Transportation, with eight trucks and drivers. The company’s address is on the 900 block of New York Ave. in Trenton, the same block as Dubai and El Catador.

Sources say Araya paid significantly more than the market value for Mill Hill Saloon and Trenton Social, which he acquired last year.

The investigation remains ongoing, and officials urge anyone with information, including additional victims, to contact the Mercer County SVU at (609) 989-6568 or mcposvu@mercercounty.org.

Another Trenton Event CANCELLED! Rising Violence Forces Postponement of Art All Night Event in Violent Trenton http://www.trentonorbit.com/naturalistic-design-is-thriving-as-actual-nature-dies/ Fri, 23 Jun 2023 00:03:13 +0000 http://localhost/panel/xpeedstudio/wp/newszone/?p=92 Trenton, NJ – In a city plagued by escalating violence and plagued by an alarming homicide rate, the much-anticipated Art All Night event in Trenton has been postponed due to safety concerns. As a concerned journalist, it is disheartening to witness yet another casualty of the ongoing bloodshed that has gripped our struggling community.

Art All Night-Trenton, a cherished 24-hour art and entertainment extravaganza that has been a staple since 2007, was set to offer artists of all backgrounds a platform to showcase their talents. However, the organizers at Artworks Trenton have been forced to make the difficult decision to postpone the in-person programming of Art All Night: Back to Basics. The safety and well-being of the community, it seems, have taken precedence over artistic expression and cultural celebration. In recent years, the event has not been 24 hours due to safety concerns.

Thousands turned out for the 11th year of Art All Night 2017 at the historic Roebling Wire Works in Trenton. Phil McAuliffe for the Times of Trenton

The cancellation comes on the heels of Trenton’s 16th homicide of the year, a grim statistic that paints a haunting picture of the city’s descent into lawlessness. This surge in violence has already led to the cancellation of several other local events, as residents grow increasingly concerned about the summer months and the impact on their daily lives.

It is impossible to ignore the haunting echoes of the past. In 2018, during a previous iteration of Art All Night, chaos erupted when multiple individuals engaged in a brazen shootout. The senseless violence left scores of innocent attendees wounded, and one life tragically cut short. A 32-year-old male, suspected to be one of the shooters, lost his life that fateful night, while another alleged gunman was apprehended by police.

Unfortunately, the recent postponement of Art All Night has only reinforced the prevailing sense of unease that has gripped Trenton. The cancellation serves as a stark reminder of the daunting challenges faced by a community grappling with deep-rooted social issues and an atmosphere of fear.

Local residents, while understanding the need for safety precautions, find themselves questioning whether this is just the beginning of a long and bloody summer. They wonder how many more events will be sacrificed on the altar of violence, and whether their city can ever reclaim its vibrancy and sense of security.

As Trenton struggles to navigate this seemingly unrelenting wave of violence, concerned voices call for urgent action from authorities and community leaders. They demand comprehensive strategies aimed at curbing crime, fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and residents, and tackling the root causes of violence.

Fight and Gunfire Erupt in Trenton Parking Garage, After Cigar Sunday, Suspects at Large. http://www.trentonorbit.com/the-secret-to-moving-this-ancient-sphinx-screening/ Thu, 22 Jun 2023 23:45:21 +0000 http://localhost/panel/xpeedstudio/wp/newszone/?p=94

Trenton, NJ – In a disturbing incident on Sunday evening, a large fight broke out in the parking garage at Cooper’s Riverview, escalating into gunfire and leaving one male victim injured. The Trenton Police Department swiftly responded to the scene, and additional assistance was provided by the New Jersey State Police and Morrisville Borough, PA Police. The Shooting Response Team has taken charge of the investigation.

According to the Trenton Police, the male victim suffered gunshot wounds to the upper left chest and sustained a graze wound to the bicep. He was immediately rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he is currently listed in stable condition. Authorities have not yet identified the suspect(s) involved in the incident, and a manhunt is underway to bring them to justice.

This violent incident is one of the many shootings in Trenton this year and the 4th within this week alone, leaving citizens in fear and questioning the safety of their community. Concerned residents have expressed their dismay at the rising crime rates and the impact it has on their city. “It’s horrible out there,” said one resident. “I know there are many good people in this community, but these criminals are ruining the very place they live. They’re ruining businesses, taking innocent lives, and destroying families. What happened to these people to be so evil?”

The community’s frustration is compounded by the lack of communication from city officials regarding the ongoing violence. Many residents feel that silence from the authorities only adds to their fears and heightens the urgency for effective measures to address the issue.

The Shooting Response Team is diligently investigating the incident and working towards identifying the suspects involved. Their efforts, coupled with the collaboration of multiple law enforcement agencies, offer hope for swift apprehension and justice for the victim.

Authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation. Anonymous tips can be submitted through the Trenton Police Department.

As the investigation continues, the Trenton community eagerly awaits updates from city officials, hopeful that the efforts of law enforcement will lead to the swift apprehension of those responsible for this senseless act of violence.

As a result of the escalating shooting incidents and violence, the city of Trenton has regrettably made the difficult decision to cancel some of the upcoming summer events. While this decision aims to prioritize public safety, it also serves as a stark reminder of the challenges the community faces.

However, amid these trying times, it is crucial to emphasize that the community needs hope now more than ever. The resilience of the residents, along with the dedication of law enforcement and community leaders, can pave the way for positive change. By working together, fostering dialogue, and implementing effective strategies, Trenton can reclaim its spirit and restore a sense of security for its citizens.

Despite the current circumstances, the community remains united in its determination to overcome these challenges and create a safer future. Together, they will strive to rebuild trust, support one another, and reclaim the vibrant spirit that defines the heart of Trenton.

Trenton, NJ – In a tragic incident that unfolded on Thursday morning, the city of Trenton was shaken by its 16th homicide this year. A man was shot in the face and killed in the 100 block of Vine Street, prompting a joint investigation by the Trenton Police and the Mercer County Homicide Task Force.

The incident came to light when Trenton emergency medical services were responding to a motor vehicle accident in the area. To their dismay, they discovered an unresponsive male with a gunshot wound to the face. Despite their best efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

Local residents recounted hearing a single gunshot earlier in the morning, at approximately 1:30 am. However, due to the possibility of it being mistaken for fireworks, one resident admitted that they refrained from reporting the incident to the police. This highlights the importance of promptly reporting suspicious activities or sounds to the authorities, as it can aid in preventing such tragic outcomes.

The Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office has taken charge of the investigation into this homicide, which occurred on Thursday, June 22, 2023. Trenton Police were dispatched to the scene at around 7:00 am, following reports of a motor vehicle accident involving an unresponsive individual. The deceased victim has been identified as Guillermo Sanchez, who was found with a gunshot wound.

Law enforcement agencies are actively working to gather evidence, interview witnesses, and piece together the events leading up to this heinous act of violence. As the investigation is ongoing, the authorities are urging anyone with information related to the incident to come forward. Detectives Sergeant Roberto Reyes and Detective Elijah Phillips of the Mercer County Homicide Task Force can be reached at 609-989-6406. Additionally, information can be emailed to mchtftips@mercercounty.org.

Incidents of violence like this shake communities and leave a lasting impact on the affected individuals and their loved ones. Trenton, like many cities, faces the ongoing challenge of addressing and preventing such acts. Community engagement, reporting suspicious activities promptly, and cooperating with law enforcement are vital steps in combating violence and ensuring the safety of residents.

As the investigation into this tragic event continues, the Trenton Police and the Mercer County Homicide Task Force remain committed to seeking justice for Guillermo Sanchez and providing answers to the grieving family. The support and cooperation of the community will play a crucial role in achieving these objectives and preventing further incidents of this nature.

The city of Trenton mourns another life lost to violence, and it is a solemn reminder of the need for collective efforts to foster a safer community for all its residents.

"Politicians in Trenton are not doing anything... Look at the conditions of the streets, houses. Crime in Trenton reminds me of Jamaica. We would think NJ it would be better.. Its just as corrupted..."

Trenton Knuckle Heads Ruin the FUN; Rising Crime Causes Cigar Sunday and First Friday Cancellation http://www.trentonorbit.com/cheap-smartphone-sensor-could-help-you-old-food-safe-eat/ http://www.trentonorbit.com/cheap-smartphone-sensor-could-help-you-old-food-safe-eat/#respond Thu, 22 Jun 2023 00:18:00 +0000 http://localhost/panel/xpeedstudio/wp/newszone/?p=83

TRENTON — The vibrant spirit of Trenton’s monthly First Fridays has been marred by an unfortunate surge in violence and disruptive behavior, forcing the cancellation of the beloved community event for the remainder of 2023.

A cherished tradition for seven years, First Fridays were held on the first Friday of each month from May through October, featuring local vendors and live music. However, after only two events this year, the African American Cultural Collaborative of Mercer County (TAACF) announced the disappointing news via social media on Tuesday morning.

In a heartfelt statement, event organizers expressed their gratitude for the support received over the years, but also their deep regret in having to make this decision. They emphasized the need for sustainable solutions to combat senseless violence and destructive conduct within the City of Trenton, in the hopes of reviving First Fridays in the future.

Helen Jones Walker, TAACF’s publicity chair, revealed to New Jersey 101.5 that they had noticed a concerning change in the attendees at First Fridays. She described it as a “lack of maturity,” clarifying that it was not exclusively tied to age. Walker explained that the cancellation was driven by a prevailing atmosphere of increased violence in the city. Lieutenant Nathan Bolognini, spokesperson for the Trenton Police, echoed this sentiment, stating that the decision was a precautionary measure to protect a large gathering of people from potential harm.

As the community wonders whether this cancellation is permanent, Mayor Reed Gusciora reassured residents that efforts are underway to restore First Fridays before the end of the season. Gusciora disclosed plans to convene a working group and engage with community leaders to devise strategies for reducing violence. The mayor expressed his eagerness to collaborate personally with the event organizers to address the cancellation, emphasizing that public safety remains the city’s top priority.

Walker confirmed that TAACF had been in communication with the mayor’s office, indicating a shared commitment to finding a resolution.

Disruptive Incident Following Trenton Cigar Event

The decision to cancel First Fridays followed an unsettling incident that occurred shortly after a Cigar Sundays event in Trenton on Sunday. Following the conclusion of the gathering at Cooper’s Riverview restaurant around 9 p.m., a violent altercation erupted in a nearby parking garage.

The situation escalated tragically, resulting in a shooting that left a man wounded in the chest and bicep, according to reports from The Trentonian. The victim was promptly transported to the hospital and is currently in stable condition.

Organizers of the Cigar Sundays event released a statement affirming their commitment to maintaining a safe environment, highlighting the presence of Trenton police officers and professional security at their events. They stressed that the shooting took place in an area beyond their control, acknowledging the profound impact it would have on the local community.

Lt. Bolognini clarified that the city has not witnessed any shootings directly linked to organized events, seeking to differentiate this unfortunate incident from the broader context of Trenton’s community gatherings.

The West Windsor Police Department swiftly responded to a call for help, interrupting the duo’s audacious plan to “haul away” their ill-gotten gains using a stolen U-Haul truck.
